Remember that small movie at the end of Chrono Cross, where we see that Schala has been transported to what seems to be modern-day Tokyo? This is inspired by that small movie, except that I changed her hair back to blue, because, fuck dammit that’s how it should have been. The ORIGINAL!
So here’s my headcanon: at the end of CC, Kid has manifested herself as her own person, independent from Schala, thus moving on with her own life. Ergo, they didn’t merge. They both parted their different ways.
To me, Schala, after all the odyssey she went through from Chrono Trigger, as the forsaken princess of Zeal to all the drama that happened in Chrono Cross by being almost completely consumed by Lavos’ remains and spawning the Time Devourer, she finally obtained her liberty when Serge and the others freed her from Lavos.
In the end, she was finally given peace. She finally got the happiness she deserved and sought for so long.
She is so faraway from her own time and so faraway from home, in a new era and place where nobody knows her name and face but she smiles because, for the very first time thousands of years, after all she has seen and all that she has been through, after all that she has lost, she has gained the most important thing: freedom.
And as for her reuniting Janus… Only time will be able to tell if it happened.
